New Enterprise Associates Leads U.S. VC Firms With 12 Deals in Oct. - CBL

BALTIMORE/CHEVY CHASE, Md. -- New Enterprise Associates (NEA) Inc. led the pack of U.S. venture capitalists by closing 12 deals in October, exceeding its September performance of eight deals, according to a report by PEHub.com.
Among the companies that NEA, with offices in Baltimore and Chevy Chase, Md., invested in were its fellow locals GlycoMimetics Inc., TidalTV Inc. and Zyngenia Inc., as Citybizlist reported. Others included Quidsi Inc., which is the parent of Diapers.com; Inhibitex Inc.; and Pentaho Corp.
NEA participated in a $54.3 million investment in GlycoMimetics. The biotechnology company capitalizes on advances in the field of glycobiology. The state of Maryland also joined the round for the Gaithersburg, Md.-based company.
Formed last year, Baltimore-based TidalTV ($9 million deal) combines technology and mathematics to deliver demographically targeted messages for advertisers, and to enable publishers to monetize the value of their audiences across demographic segments.
Rockville, Md.-based Zyngenia ($10 million), founded in 2008, is a biotherapeutics company focused on the development of next-generation, multispecific antibodies.
Diapers.com ($30 million) is a Montclair, N.J.-based online specialist offering baby care necessities in the United States.
Inhibitex ($23 million), based in Alpharetta, Ga., is a biopharmaceutical company (Nasdaq: INHX) focused on developing products to treat serious infectious diseases.
Pentaho, founded in 2004, is an Orlando, Fla.-based software developer.
